JUST DO IT ! !
THIS IS A Comment by Rebecca J. West 5/8/03 @ 9AM. SHE JUST SWITCHED FROM
THE GE SYNTHETICS TO PORK AN NOW IS ON BEEF INSULIN
I've got mine . . . so why should I care
Especially To Tim, and Barb, and Deb and all those still struggling on Lantus and the other gm/synthetic insulin. It's time to come over to our side.
I made a balance sheet - pro's and con's and with constant seizures, convulsions, nighttime lows, erratic blood sugar, blindness, advanced neuropathy, brain infarctions, oedema, etc . . . I figured I had nothing to loose.
I said to the doc "I'm just going to try it for a short time and if it isn't any better, I'll go right back to whatever you want."
I switched to pork and within days was blessed with a new life. I fought to find a source for beef insulin and finally started it April 4/03. Although the pork insulin was 100% better than the GM poison - when used "straight-up" it gave me excruitiating headaches, heavy peaks when it was supposed to peak, and hand tremors.
Within about a week of starting the beef insulin, the killer headaches just disappeared! Poof! Just gone!
The beef was slow, however, if I stayed close to my diet it never failed to give me level blood sugar readings in the morning, before meals, and at bed. Eg. I'm slowly finding what I feel comfortable with - still a little high but I want my HgA1c over 8 but under 10 and I want to move slowly as I don't want any more damage to my eyes. For the last week for every test at appropriate times I run 13mm/md [235 mg/di], 13.3 [240], 13.5 [243]. I fooled around with adding small amounts of pork to speed things up and found that only a very small amount was necessary, otherwise I began to feel headaches coming on. (Small amount of pork? Like, right now 7 units a day split between split doses of Neutral and Lente 2 shots a day)
I was told that once I go on the pork insulin, I would have "nerve re-growth" where I was hit with advanced neuropathy. This didn't happen when I went onto pork . . . however, since the beef . . . my feet and hands have been so painful and as though they are being sliced with razor blades. I will live with this as I am told that the process will take a little time and then "everything will be alright" - I'm on the road to recovering feeling in my feet and hands! My eardrums have been excruciating itchy and painful . . . my hearing is getting better! And, I have timed my memory recall to about 35-45 seconds. Jeopardy, and Alex Travec is once again becoming a pleasure!
What am I saying? Tim, Barb, Deb, and even you Joe (whoever you are), in earlier posts you asked questions about the Lantus, you talked about the night time drops, the erratic readings. Please listen to what the people using beef/pork insulin are saying.
Now, when I FEEL a low coming on, I take a 1/2 cup of apple juice, sit down, and count my blessings and thank Dave and Colleen, and Marketplace, and Fox, etc. for giving my life back to me. The sugar recovery is always within minutes. (I remember the Humulog and fighting to get from a 1.8 [32] by drinking half a gallon of apple juice, plus packets of glucose jell, and a glucagon injection, just to push it up to 2.8 [50]and then struggling to get it up over 4 [72] while convulsing and shaking in front of a team of paramedics. But I was lucky . . . I'm still sucking in air as opposed to many diabetics that are dead.
Now that my life is back it's easy to forget you people . . . I have my beef/pork mixed insulin now . . . so Jimmy cracked corn.
But, I will continue to fight for free choice in insulin and I continue to be disappointed when I hear phrases like . . .
"we have no other choice, we better learn
to get by with what we have."
I feel this attitude is how "the ones who cannot be named," want us to be. They want the sheep to follow doctors orders and do what we're told and accept that diabetes is a seizure disease and we might as well put our affairs in order. And God forbid, if any of our children or grand children become diabetic - we'll just give them those shots of Lantus and Humulog and Humulin insulin and say, "oh well, it's all we have . . . best we just make-do."
SORRY GUYS . . . THIS IS WRONG and you're just rolling over for them.
Basic economics. . supply and DEMAND. If we give up and do what they want - it's a slam-dunk for them and it's over for us and for future generations to come. You can still get the beef insulin and you can still get pork.
They're telling everyone the GM poison is the insulin of choice because the natural beef/pork insulin is no longer being purchased. [It cant be purchased if it isnt available]
Guys . . . don't let them do this and tell all the diabetics you know . . . you can get beef and pork . . . we have to keep ordering it and keep using it. And we need to let the diabetics who don't know what beef/pork insulin is like . . . how safe it is . . . how they can live a normal healthy life using it. We especially have to protect the children . . . how can we let something that causes convulsions, seizures, and death to children. If you won't do it for yourselves . . . please do it for the children.
(With good diet habits and regular planned exercise, you can cut your dosage needs to minimal amounts - that means less cresol and phenol in the body. In fact, when I was younger I used to take a small basal ultralente and instead of using the Toronto/Regular I would exercise just prior and after a meal.)
You have to fight for it . . . don't "make-do." The more people that order it and try to get it, the more attention is given to the problem. The more we order, the more they will make and it will give more power to the ones that make the good safe insulin. We need to give more power to the good guys.
We have to speak-up every day! They've challenged us and now we have to stand-up to the challenge.
Remember how I told my physician that if the animal insulin didn't work I would go back to whatever he wanted. Yeah right . I'm thinking malicious, pre-meditated, attempted, mal-practice, and incompetent. I'll be filing a lawsuit against him in the near future. I feel and look 20 years younger and ready to take on the world! With his "professional" treatment, I was putting my affairs in order!
It's time to stand-up and question authority . . . and the more that stand together the stronger we will be. Please fight for your lives and please don't ever give-up. If I can do it . . . you can do it.
